In it for the Long Run: Meet Mike Radice

“I’m Mike Radice, and if you ever find yourself on the trails of the south coast, there’s a good chance you’ll spot me running with a grin on my face. I live in Dorset and have been hitting the trails for nearly 20 years… ever since I laced up my shoes in my early 30s (to lose a bit of weight). I’m still going strong, and if my body lets me, I’ll keep going for another 20.

Growing up in the countryside gave me a deep love for the outdoors, and now I work as a forest ranger. Trail running was just inevitable. It combined everything I already loved: solitude, nature, challenge.

I’ve never run for medals. Even though I enjoy the grind of long distances and pushing myself, I’ve always classed myself as a solo runner. That changed slightly in 2023 when I joined the Maverick Run Project (MRP). Through MRP, I found something I didn’t realise I’d been missing: community. The local trail running scene here is vibrant, supportive, and totally infectious.

My races range from 25km to 50km, but the 50km is where I feel most at home. I’ve had a few decent results… not bad for what I call an “old man” who’s only ever done this for fun. Still, even if you took the racing away tomorrow, I’d keep showing up. For me, trail running isn’t about medals; it’s about passion, peace, and purpose.

If there’s a secret to longevity in this sport, it’s this: find the love for the trails, not the medals.”

Mike has been unbelievably supportive of BUDS BALM. We have delivered a product that he believes in, and he has made huge efforts to showcase that and spread the word. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work with Mike. I started this business for people like him, and am glad we can support his body in moving towards his future goals and ambitions.
